I am an experienced and highly skilled teacher with more than 30 years working in primary schools.

The journey through education  is not always straightforward for children. Unfortunately for some, the school environment can be difficult to navigate and even traumatising. 

I have established South Kent SEN Tuition specifically to work with and support children who are finding or have found the mainstream school environment overwhelming and require a different approach.

I always take care to ensure that children don't feel that they're 'back in the classroom' and will, as far as is possible, capitalise on their strengths and areas of interest so that learning can happen without them noticing!

Many of the children I work with have had negative experiences of school which for them, is is a stressful and anxiety producing space. They may be currently unable to attend school or be on a reduced timetable, or their parents have decided that their children will be educated other than at school (Electively Home Educated or "Educated Otherwise than at School' (EOTAS), for some children with an EHC plan). 

I am experienced in working with children who have disengaged from learning and may have an acute fear of failure. 

I am happy to read reports and assessments produced by school and outside agencies to inform my teaching. I can, where appropriate, liaise with school. 

I have many years experience teaching:

• neurodivergent children: autistic children (including those without a formal diagnosis but showing characteristics of ASD, children with a PDA profile and ADHD)
• children with speech, language and communication needs 
• children with social emotional amd mental health needs, including children who have difficulties managing their emotions and behaviour
